Tambor chico denotes a smaller drum within an ensemble, but its dimensions, tuning, and role vary by local tradition. It may interact with a larger drum through complementary patterns, mark dance steps, or accompany wind instruments. It should not automatically be equated with a band snare drum or other small membranophones. This category locates recordings explicitly using the name tambor chico. Locality, ensemble type, materials, and rhythmic relationship with other instruments help clarify its role, particularly when a source describes a paired set of drums. The relative word ‘small’ is meaningful only within its documented instrumental setting.
