The eighteenth century was a period of substantial musical activity in religious institutions, urban spaces, and community celebrations in New Spain. Scores, parish archives, and written accounts illuminate some repertoires, while many orally transmitted practices left uneven documentary traces. Recordings filed here will generally be later performances or reconstructions of materials attributed to the period. The source of a work and modern instrumentation choices should be identified whenever possible.
