Mazahua communities have longstanding ties to the State of Mexico and Michoacán, with cultural practices and linguistic varieties that differ among localities. Celebrations, dances, and musical ensembles may participate in community life, but their repertoires need to be identified from each source. This category gathers documents associated with Mazahua communities and offers a way to examine connections among music, territory, and transmission between generations. Recording details such as place, date, participants, instruments, and occasion help distinguish a community performance from a staged adaptation or a commercial release that uses the same cultural designation.
