Singing uses the human voice to organize pitch, rhythm, words, and timbre within a musical practice. In Mexico it encompasses repertories in many languages, from ceremonial and narrative singing to popular songs, concert music, and vocal experimentation. Ways of singing may depend on a community occasion, a learned tradition, a written arrangement, or an individual performer’s choices. This category gathers records related to singing and supports examination of the relationship among voice, text, accompaniment, and setting. Not every recorded vocal sound constitutes singing in the same sense; local terminology and documentary credits should guide cataloguing.
