Idiófono de percusión
/ Archive / Instruments / Idiophones / Idiófono de percusión

A percussion idiophone produces sound through vibration of the instrument’s own body when struck, scraped, or shaken, without relying on a stretched membrane. In Mexico this family includes objects of varied materials and designs used in ensembles, dances, and celebrations. Organological classification describes how sound is generated but does not, by itself, establish an instrument’s cultural origin. This category groups recordings whose sound source is identified as a percussion idiophone. Local instrument name, material, playing technique, and documented musical function should be specified for each item. The same general classification can encompass very different instruments and traditions.
